An actor from the 2008 film The Dark Knight is filming a new movie in Fort Saskatchewan this month.

Production has begun on Red Pine City, the first Albertan feature film from Factory Film Studio.

Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, who played Maroni in The Dark Knight, stars in the film about a reluctant enforcer who teams up with a talented country singer to get rid of a local mobster.

Other stars include Rick Ravenello (General Hospital, Lethal Weapon, Weeds) and Elise Muller (The Young and the Restless, Parenthood).

Red Pine City is being shot in Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton and surrounding areas with an almost entirely Albertan cast and crew.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of a growing film industry in this truly fabulous city. I see limitless filming possibilities. This is only the beginning,” said Michael Patrick Lilly, Factory Film Studio’s chief creative officer and one of the film’s producers.

The film is directed by Frank A. Caruso, who also directed films such as Risk Factor, Club Utopia, and No Angel.

Red Pine City's release date has yet to be announced.
