A local hockey player has been committed to a major university.

Sherwood Park Crusaders defenceman Tyler Miller has been committed to Michigan Tech University.

The 17-year-old Medicine Hat native is in his second season with Sherwood Park after joining them from the NAX program. Millers played in 35 games for the Crusaders and has scored two goals and six points.

“I am looking forward to my future as a husky at MTU,” said Miller. “I was so impressed with both the academic and athletic programs, as well as the atmosphere and energy at the rink. I’m excited to be part of such an amazing organization.”

Michigan Tech University, in Hughton, Michigan, is an NCAA Division I program that plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and currently has an 8-5-0 record.

Miller is now the third Crusader from the 2021-22 roster to commit to an NCAA Division I program, joining Cale Ashcroft (University of Denver) and Tyler Bates (Colorado College).
