A structure fire in Bruderheim gave firefighters some trouble.
On Apr.30 at around 4 p.m., the Bruderheim Fire District responded to a structure fire in town. Along with crews from Lamont and Chipman, the department was on scene within nine minutes of the initial call.
Upon arrival, they found a fully-involved fire in the garage that spread to the house.
Crews were faced with multiple challenges. Fuel in the garage and a drastic change in the wind created additional risks for firefighters.
Eventually, crews were able to control the blaze and prevented it from badly damaging surrounding structures.
"Our crews did a really good job containing this and they had a really good response time," said Lamont regional fire chief Shayne Milliken.
All family members and pets made it out of the house. Firefighters found a cat in the residence and were able to rescue it and put it on oxygen.
Crews were on scene for about four hours.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A GoFundMe page was started to support the family who lost their home.
