Snow clearing is getting a bit of a boost.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan is buying new snow clearing equipment as part of a five-year plan to assess roadways, services and ensure service levels are being met.
Public works director, Richard Gagnon, said the approved 2022 budget includes $380,000 to purchase a new loader, snow blade and bucket to help with snow clearing as well as waste management.
“This is a vehicle that we’re going to use basically all year round,” said Gagnon.
The five-year plan began last year when the city approved funds to contract services; however, this year’s focus is on hiring staff and getting the new equipment.
Gagnon added new machinery can get quite expensive, and the five-year plan allows the city to spread out the costs while bringing in new equipment in a timely fashion.
