It's a fixture in any community in Alberta.......the local arena.

It's where many residents spend a lot of their winter with hockey, ringette, figure skating and many other community activities.  The Town of Bruderheim has been facing a scary scenario with their arena, the possibility of shutting its doors due to deteriorating equipment.

The currant ice making machine is still the original when the rink was built over 30 years ago and has been repaired numerous times.  Last year the Town of Bruderheim and the entire community have set their sights on replacing the ice making machine.  They received $25,000 as part of the Kraft Hockeyville competition, which they are entering again this year.

ATB Financial has added their support to the fundraising and Branch Manager for Fort Saskatchewan and Bruderheim, Ed Sperling, made a donation announcement on Mix 107.9.

Bruderheim Mayor Karl Hauch joined Ed Sperling for the announcement and was very pleased to hear the business support.

This is the second time the community of Bruderheim is facing the loss of a recreational facility.  The Curling Rink was in a similar scenario but funding wasn't available at the time to save the curling rink and was shutdown.

To lose the arena would be a huge loss to not only the Town of Bruerheim but to the entire Heartland region.
