A comment made during a Bon Accord council meeting has caused some controversy.
During their meeting on Oct.6, the council was looking into changes to their fire bylaw. In the discussion portion, deputy mayor Lynn Bidney said "We have too many chiefs and not enough..." before trailing off and laughing.
A clip of the deputy mayor making the comment started going around a few local Facebook groups. Some residents took offense to the statement, calling it "racially insensitive."
"In no way did I intend any offense to anyone. My next words were going to be 'and not enough firefighters' and I should have finished that sentence," said Bidney. "I do apologize."
Bidney added she is planning to make a public apology at the next council meeting, which is on Tuesday (Oct.20).
