Sunday afternoon (July 10), Karen Bowhay snapped an up-close picture of a mother bear and her cub.

Bowhay was picking up her grandsons in Lamont and was heading home to Leslieville when she saw the two crossing the street.

The encounter happened in Elk Island National Park on the road from Lamont connecting to Highway 16.

While it’s not common, there are bear sightings in and around the nearby national park.
