The 2022 FIFA World Cup starts soon, and with the tournament being hosted in Qatar, several games begin in the early morning hours.
As a result, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) is allowing Alberta bars to open early and serve liquor to patrons.
Here are when bars can open for liquor service:
- From Nov. 21 to Nov. 28, the start time is 5:30 a.m.
- From Nov. 29 to Dec. 10, the start time is 7:30 a.m.
So far, no bars in Fort Saskatchewan or Sherwood Park said they're participating, but you can find a few bars in Edmonton that are moving forward with the earlier service.
Team Canada's first game is Nov. 23 when they take on the second-place team in the world rankings, Belgium.
