It was a big weekend for high school football.
The 2021 Metro Edmonton High School Football Championships got underway at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday (Nov.6).
Salisbury Composite defeated Harry Ainlay 21-14 in the Carr Division final. Salisbury finished the regular season with six wins and one loss, rivalled only by Harry Ainlay, who finished with a perfect 7-0 regular-season record.
In the Gilfillan Division final, Sturgeon Composite lost to Lillian Osbourne, 42-13. After scoring a touchdown late in the first quarter, Lillian Osbourne maintained their lead over Sturgeon to take the division title.
Despite the outcome of Saturday’s game, Sturgeon Composite earned a spot at the provincial championships and will host Peace River on Nov. 13 on their home field in St Albert. Salisbury will play St. Francis High School out of Calgary on Nov. 20.
