Farm Fair International drew a crowd of people from all over Canada last month.

The President of the Maritime Angus Association, Amy Higgins, traveled from her family farm in Quispamsis, New Brunswick to Edmonton to take in the cattle show.

Higgins works as the Agricultural Business Development Specialist at the Sussex & Studholm Agricultural Society Co-op where she works with producers in industries like dairy, beef, grape, berry and hops.

She started her trip out in Ontario for a black calf club sale.

"They get a bunch of producers and pool their calves and market them that way," Higgins says. "We're thinking about doing similar things in the Martimes, so that was a good opportunity to see that, and then I followed that up with the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, and spent a few days there before heading out here to cattle country in Edmonton, Alberta for Farm Fair."

Higgins is also part of the Cattlemen's Young Leaders (CYL) Mentorship Program this year.

Participants in the program are paired mentors in the beef industry, and also build their knowledge through events and travel opportunities.

She says, the program has been fantastic so far.

"This trip isn't necessarily a part of the mentorship, but I wouldn't have thought to string it together like I have if I wasn't thinking that kind of way. It's been really great to have the resources and not be afraid to introduce yourself to some former CYL delegates and mentors."

Higgins says, she's looking forward to more travel opportunities and working with her mentor Kerry Wright from Ontario.
