The 44rd Farm Fair International wrapped up in Edmonton on Sunday with a record breaking crowd this year.

There were 101,129 guests at the Edmonton EXPO Centre taking in cattle sales and shows, the Heritage Ranch Rodeo, equine events, and the RAM Country Market Place.

The Fair brought in 140 international buyers from 14 countries looking to buy Canadian livestock genetics.

The number of international buyers was up 55 percent from last year.

"We are proud of the incredible growth achieved by Farm Fair International," says Tim Reid, President and CEO, Northlands. "The success of this event further demonstrates the importance of agriculture to Northlands and to Alberta's economy. Farm Fair is an integral part of the future of Northlands as we embrace our agricultural roots moving forward."

It was one of the biggest years for the show with more than 1,500 head of livestock exhibited.

Dawn Wilson from Bashaw, AB, was an exhibitor at the event, and won Reserve Grand Champion Angus Female in the Legends of the Fall Show.

Wilson says, not only is Farm Fair a tradition, it's also a great marketing opportunity.

"They bring in a huge international clientele. They've got an inbound buyers program, so they actually go out and search for these people that are looking for Canadian Genetics in specific, and bring them over to Farm Fair. It's a huge service to the industry."

Wilson says, they had 85 international buyers visit their operation.

"To get that amount of people to your farm in one location, one time, one day, is huge. How often will that happen in your lifetime? Not too often, and it's only because of Farm Fair bringing these people here."

The highest cattle population density in Canada is within a 300 kilometers radius of Edmonton, making it a great location for the show.

There was also the Rodeo Future Champions, where young cowgirls and cowboys competed for cash prizes and buckles. Some of the toughest competitors were achieving impressive times in the rodeo events.
