The Calgary Stampede attracts a lot of international attention which Alberta's Agriculture and Forestry Minister plans to take advantage of.

Minister Oneil Carlier, says he's got a busy week planned at the grounds.

"It's the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, but besides that, there are a lot of people here from around the world that are coming to do business in Alberta, coming to invest in Alberta, and it's those folks I want to connect with."

Carlier says, he met with Canada's International Trade Minister, François-Philippe Champagne, earlier this week in Calgary, and he plans to meet with his Federal counterpart, Ag Minister Lawrence Macaulay, during the Stampede as well.

Carlier was a part of honouring the 2018 BMO Farm Families at the grounds on Monday.

He says, it's important to congratulate the families on the work they've been doing for generations.

"I think often as typical Canadians, we don't brag about our success stories, but here's a great success story that we should be bragging more about. The farming that's actually going on here, the family farms that are contributing. There's one family farm here that's been in existence since 1883."

Carlier adds, along with their contributions to raising good food, the families were also recognized for their involvement in their local communities.
